Kahmahl Simmons for County Commissioner
Your Voice. Your District. Your Future.
-

Meet Kahmahl “Melo” Simmons. He’s a father, mentor, entrepreneur, and community anchor who grew up right here in Wilson and built a reputation for listening, serving, and elevating the people around him.
From the barbershop chair to community boardrooms, Kahmahl has spent years hearing the real concerns of working families. Not secondhand, not filtered, but face-to-face. As the owner of Difrent Level Barber Studios, he’s become a trusted voice for residents, a mentor for youth, and a connector for those looking for resources, guidance, or opportunity.
His leadership style is simple: listen first, act with purpose, and keep the community at the center of every decision.
Kahmahl has volunteered in Wilson County Schools, led youth mentorship and career workshops, partnered with nonprofits, and served on the Wilson Downtown Development Corporation’s Design Committee. He’s always working to make sure everyday people have a seat at the table.Leadership Rooted in Experience
Kahmahl understands what county leadership means because he’s lived the impact of policy decisions firsthand. A County Commissioner helps shape the direction of growth, approves budgets, sets priorities, and represents residents when decisions are made about housing, infrastructure, economic development, and essential services. It’s a role that requires listening, collaboration, and a clear understanding of how policies affect real people. It’s not just plans on paper.
Kahmahl brings that understanding naturally. Raised in public housing in District 2, he knows what it means to start with limited resources and still believe in the possibility of ownership, stability, and growth. Through discipline, patience, and hard work, he became a homeowner and a commercial property owner. Both of his properties are located right here in District 2. His path wasn’t instant or lavish. Each step required renovation, reinvestment, and adding value where opportunity once seemed scarce.
When Kahmahl first purchased his properties, the surrounding area included abandoned homes and limited opportunity for renters or small businesses. Instead of walking away, he leaned in improving what he could, investing where others hesitated, and proving that progress is possible when the right environment exists.
As Wilson prepares for new development, including projects like the baseball stadium, Kahmahl sees opportunity and responsibility. Growth should create pathways, not barriers. His focus is on ensuring everyday residents, first-time buyers, and small business owners aren’t pushed out of the future but positioned to participate in it.
That’s the heart of his leadership: hope grounded in experience and progress built with people in mind.
Your voice. Your district. Your future.
Kahmahl is ready to lead with the same heart, humility, and hands-on service he’s shown for years — and he’s inviting Wilson to rise with him.Platform Highlights:
